A traditional event, Kodokan Autumn Kohaku-shiai (Team Contest between Red & White) was held on a grand scale at the Kodokan on Sunday, October 15th.

We received about 400 applications, and contests were held for respective divisions: Men's, Women's and Boys & Girls. Matches were held one by one in each contest, and winners fought in succeeding matches until they lost, or until their match ended in a draw.

The teams won the title in each division were as follows: Men's division, Red team; Women's division, Red team; Boys and Girls division, White team.

There is a unique system called "Batsugun-shodan (instant promotion by preeminence)" in Kodokan Kohaku-shiai. Using the system, participants who win predefined number of times by Ippon can get a higher Dan grade on the same day.

This time, Ms. Sakura TAMAOKI was awarded Batsugun-shodan and promoted to Women's 2nd Dan.
