Bhutan Judo Association was admitted as a full member of IJF

A news has arrived from Rio de Janeiro where exciting matches are being held.

On August 5th, during the IJF EC meeting before the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Bhutan Judo Association was admitted as a full member of IJF and JUA.

196 MEMBER COUNTRIES FOR THE IJF
From today onwards the International Judo Federation also counts a new member in it's ranks, as the Judo Federation of Bhutan officially entered in the family of World Judo. Member of the Asian Judo Union and having met all the conditions for integrating the international federation, Bhutan became the 196th member federation of the IJF.

Mr. Michihiro YAMAZAKI was dispatched to Bhutan in 2010 as a student volunteer and built the foundation of Judo instruction corresponding to a request from Bhutan Judo Association that aimed to diffuse Judo as a method of human education. After that, Mr. Yudai IWABUCHI was dispatched by the Kodokan, then Mr. Yoshihiro HORIUCHI was dispatched as a Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteer and followed these predecessors' footsteps.

 

Also, His Majesty the King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan requested President UEMURA to support young Bhutanese through Judo when he visited the Kodokan in 2011. In response to this, the Kodokan has supported Bhutan and invited Bhutanese young people in March 2016 to provide them with Youth Judo Education Camp.

 

This time, the efforts of Bhutan Judo Association bore fruit, and they were admitted as a member of IJF and JUA.
