A Kodokan seminar is being held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, as one of the commemorative projects of the 120th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Brazil.

An opening ceremony was held on May 20 that was the first day of the seminar. It was attended by the high Dan holders of Brazilian Judo Confederation, and Brazilian medalists and so on. During the ceremony, the president of Kodokan gave a framed Kano Shihan's teaching as a commemorative gift, to Mr. Francisco de Carvalho Filho (the vice-president of the Brazilian Judo Confederation) and Mr. Alessandro Panitz Puglia (the president of the Sao Paulo Judo Federation).

The Japan Foundation made a grant for the seminar since it was applied to a program for dispatching instructors abroad to promote international exchange through culture and arts.

This seminar offers a good opportunity to study the essence of Judo since it will provide not only training sessions on Kata and on teaching methods, but also various lectures as listed below: A lecture by the president, a lecture for youth, a lecture on the history and philosophy of Judo.
